Core Range

Our core range consists of five cask ales which are available in a variety of sizes to suit customer needs, and cases of 12 x 500ml bottles. The core beers are available all year round.

Casks are available in 4.5 gallon, 9 gallon & 18 gallon volumes and contain ‘cask-conditioned’ beer. This means that yeast is still present in the beer allowing secondary fermentation to take place in the cask. All casks will require a minimum of two days settling time prior to serving.

Development of the Range

We started with two brands; Madog’s Ale, a traditional amber bitter, and Glaslyn Ale, a golden best bitter.

By autumn 2005 Dark Side of the Moose was added to the range. Following Lawrence’s own particular taste in beer, Dark Side of the Moose is a delicious dark and malty bitter. This beer has gone on to win the highest proportion of awards for Purple Moose Brewery, including a Great Taste Golden Fork.

In June 2006 we wanted to produce a lower-strength, refreshing, golden summer beer. Snowdonia Ale was born and became an instant hit. In fact it quickly became, and remains to this day, our best selling ale.

By 2009 demand had increased allowing room for a speciality beer, again intended as a summer seasonal beer. Ysgawen was created as a pale ale, with dried elderflower added alongside the aroma hops. Its instant popularity meant Ysgawen also very quickly joined the ranks of our core range.

Snowdonia Ale

Cwrw Eryri/Snowdonia Ale is a fine golden pale ale carefully crafted using pale and crystal malted barley, with a blend of aromatic hops to produce a refreshing and full flavour. The perfect thirst-quencher after a hard days’ walking in the glorious mountains of Snowdonia.

Madog's Ale

Cwrw Madog/Madog’s Ale is a classic session bitter. The beer takes its name from William Alexander Madocks, who is noted for building the ‘Cob’ and Porthmadog harbour in the 19th century. The town which grew up around the harbour, originally Port Madoc, took its name from Madocks.

Elderflower Ale

Cwrw Ysgawen/Elderflower Ale is a delightfully refreshing pale ale brewed using Cascade hops with the added indulgence of elderflower. The beer exhibits a superb floral bouquet and a delectable sweet citrus finish. A real taste of summer. Excellent for restaurants and gastro pubs.

Glaslyn Ale

Cwrw Glaslyn/Glaslyn Ale is a fine golden premium bitter. The name of this beer comes from the Glaslyn river which begins among the upper slopes of ‘Yr Wyddfa’ (Snowdon) before cascading through the Aberglaslyn Pass until it reaches Porthmadog harbour and the Irish Sea beyond.

Darkside of the Moose

Ochr Dywyll y Mws/Dark Side of the Moose is a delicious dark ale. Crafted using a delicate blend of crystal malt, roasted barley and Bramling Cross hops, the ‘Dark Side’ exhibits a rich malty flavour balanced with a fruity bitterness.
