A day of mixed emotions at Purple Moose as we wish June Jones, our veteran Retail Assistant, and Welsh drinks maven, the happiest of retirements. 

Anyone that has visited our Porthmadog Brewery Shop over the past 7 years will likely have been welcomed by June's incredible knowledge of Welsh drinks.

Not only has June been a passionate ambassador for Purple Moose, she has sung the praises of many Welsh drink producers, from advising customers on her favourite Welsh spirits, wine, liquours and the best beer to suit their specific occasion. Many a person have found themselves walking in to our high-street shop, puzzled as to what gift to get their loves ones, only to find themselves walking out with the perfect present in hand thanks to June's knowledge of the delicious variety of Welsh drinks that fill our shelves.

Which 5 drinks that are produced in Wales, are your favourite?

"I’m fond of many Welsh drinks, but if I have to choose 5, Purple Moose’s Chocolate & Vanilla Stout is certainly one along with Dark Side of the Moose.

"I’m very fond of Dyfi’s Pollination Gin, Pant Du’s White Wine, Llaethlliw’s Rosé Wine, it’s been so nice to promote and sell such high-standard Welsh produce."

Are there any drinks that are no longer available that you’d like to see return?

"Certainly the Myrica Gale / Bog Myrtle Stout, that was the beer that started my Purple Moose journey! Also Monty’s Brewery made a lower than average alcohol, if I remember correctly it was 2.4% ABV with the name 1172 or a similar date!"

What has been your favourite time of the year working in the shop?

"My favourite time has been the Autumn, after the busyness of the Summer it was nice to have time to converse with customers."

What will you miss the most?

"Certainly I’ll miss the conversations with staff and also numerous customers that I’ve come to know over the years."

What are your plans for retirement life?

"I believe I’ll be just as busy after retiring from Purple Moose, there’s so much to do and a lot of ideas to move forward."
